Application of an Additive Manufactured Hybrid Metal/Composite Shock Absorber Panel to a Military Seat Ejection System

In this work, a preliminary numerical assessment on the application of an additive manufactured hybrid metal/composite shock absorber panels to military seat ejection system, has been carried out. The innovative character concept investigated is that absorbing system thickness only 6 mm and composed pyramid-shaped lattice core that, due its small size, can be achieved by manufacturing. mechanical behaviour these examined measuring their ability absorb dissipate energy generated during phase into plastic deformations, thus reducing loads acting pilots. paper effectiveness five absorbers, with very thin in order easily integrated between aircraft floor, numerically studied assessing primary phase. To accomplish this, simulation explosion performed absorbed shock-absorbing mechanism assessed. analysis demonstrated more than 60% event while increasing total mass pilot-seat just 0.8%.
